If the gun is full auto, the hammer will have dropped when the bolt came forward, and releasing the trigger will do nothing. If the rifle is a semi, you can then release the trigger and hear/feel it reset, and pulling it again will drop the hammer and sound like any normal dry firing. Hold the trigger fully depressed, and rack the bolt. Clear the weapon, then close the bolt, put the selector on auto, and pull the trigger. If you are worried that a rifle might be full auto, there's a simple way to check. If the appropriate fire control parts aren't there, moving the selector to "auto" does nothing different than moving it to "semi". What matters legally is simply whether the gun fires more than one round with a single trigger pull. In fact, most folks don't even realize that's where the selector is, and use it just like the "semi" position. Same goes for AKs - tons of them don't have selector stops, and the safety level will drop all the way to "auto". There are lots of semiauto FALs out there on which the selectors will swing happily right onto the "auto" setting. Safety selector markings and travel have no legal meaning. Sorry about that, but I am so very much excited about the thing and wanting to learn all I can. Geez, I guess that's enough questions for now.
(d) If the weapon is worth keeping then I'm wondering what else is recommended to update the weapon or make it better such as new sights or other accessories as well as any tips or recommendations in keeping it up and running smoothly? (c) It is true that I should only feed this thing 7.62 x 51 ammo and should not use the 308 Win in it (different brass thickness and pressures)? I have already purchased about 180 rounds of 308 win thus far, and was wondering what exactly happens if 308 win is shot through it.
I have done a web search and have only found a few copies here and there available as a pdf download, but the photos and diagrams are pretty fuzzy.
(b) Also does anyone know where can I purchase a manual for this weapon. But on the other hand, some not so bad too. I have heard a lot of bad things about Century Arms Fal replicates. You folks really are awesome!!!Īnyway, my questions are this (a) Is this gun worth the money I spent on it or will it be one prone to much work to get it right.
But I will say that I have been studying up on firearms as much as I'm able, and for sure hanging around this forum has helped TREMENDOUSLY. This is my first experience with a FAL and I really am quite stoked with it although I haven't fired the first round through it yet. I am quite new and not much previous experience with firearms, well, I did have some but was about 30 years ago when my father (an avid gun collector) was still living. However, it came with no manual or any extra mags, just one 20 rounder. It is a (what appears to be brand new) Century Arms R1A1 for $442.00. I too thought it was a good deal and ended up walking out of the store with it today. It was something he just purchased from someone who needed the cash more than the firearm. If the rumors are true that the Century imports are MKE guns, I'd buy one if the price is right but, not at a higher price than an HK (already have an SP5, looking for an SP5K PDW), assuming I can get one.I just got back from going to the gun shop nearby, where I have an L1A1 in layaway, so as to pay some more cash down on that layaway, when the owner approached me with what he referred to as a good deal for me if I were interested, seeing how I have been such a good customer these past several months. Will be interesting to see where this all goes. There is also a reply from Atlantic Firearms on the other HK forum stating that the AP5's "will not be cheep". From one of the Reddit threads, if you Google "Manufacturer Part Number: "HG6034-N", you can see dealer pre-listings for the AP5 which are in the upper $2K's ($2,700 - $2,985). I realize that right now the HK's are pretty much Un-Obtanium but, I find it hard to believe that the MSRP on the Century imported guns will have a higher MSRP than an HK. There are a couple threads on Reddit in the MP5 section with info including a "supposed" MSRP of $2,999 which is higher than an HK SP5. So there’s something else to look forward to." That "cheeper than any other" price info has been repeated on other websites and forums. The MSRP and street price point of the Century imported AP5's is getting muddier by the day.Īn article on BallisticMag Link: Century Arms AP5 from October states that, "No price has been set as of yet, however, we were assured by Century Arms that it’s guaranteed to be cheaper than any other roller-delayed action on the U.S.
